History of Limerick Clean Energy Center
The Limerick Clean Energy Center in Pottstown, Pennsylvania began commercial operation with Unit 1 on February 1, 1986, and Unit 2 on January 8, 1990. It is one of the leading nuclear power plants in the state, capable of producing up to 2,317 megawatts (MW) of clean, carbon-free energy, which is enough to power more than 1.7 million homes. Situated on a 600-acre site next to the Schuylkill River, the plant provides full-time jobs for more than 790 local residents.
Despite its decades of service, Limerick has continued to undergo major upgrades, and on October 20, 2014, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approved initial license renewal for the plant, authorizing operation for Unit 1 until 2044 and Unit 2 until 2049.

For decades, Limerick Clean Energy Center has contributed to the local economy of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and the surrounding communities. It provides hundreds of well-paying, highly skilled jobs and contributes about $3.1 million annually to property taxes, which go to help schools, roads, and other public services. - Partnerships with local organizations such as Animal House Project, Bon Homie Better Days Foundation, Main Line Rescue, Meals on Wheels of Pottstown, and Preston’s Pantry.
- Employees volunteer over 1,500 hours annually at local schools and non-profits, educating students about energy and participating in community events.

The Limerick Clean Energy Center occupies 600 acres next to the Schuylkill River in Limerick Township, Montgomery County, approximately 35 miles northwest of Philadelphia. It operates 2 units with a notable capacity factor of 94.1 percent. The facility is licensed to operate until 2044 (Unit 1) and 2049 (Unit 2), meaning it will continue providing our communities with clean, carbon-free energy for decades to come!
