CJFP Applauds Governor Shapiro's Leadership on Energy Policy
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 17, 2024
The Clean Jobs for Pennsylvania coalition stands for the creation, growth, and preservation of clean energy jobs in the Commonwealth. That is why we are encouraged to learn that Governor Shapiro’s forward-looking Pennsylvania Reliable Energy Sustainability Standard includes a role for carbon-free nuclear energy as he seeks to expand Pennsylvania’s outdated Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards.
Including a Pennsylvania Production Tax Credit for existing nuclear plants that is based on the framework of the current federal production tax credit is a workable starting point for policy that can allow Pennsylvanians to continue to benefit from the always-on, carbon-free reliability of nuclear energy when the federal program sunsets.
We applaud Gov. Shapiro’s continued leadership on energy policy, and also thank Senator Steve Santarsiero and Representative Danielle Otten for their leadership in the General Assembly.
